Editor's note: We very rarely get complaints from our readership beyond spelling or typo errors, but that changed last year. The most complaints we ever received was when we posted a story about a building management agency in NYC where a number of contractors were mentioned. Turns out that some of these services had reputations that were far from favorable. One complaint about cabinet maker Akpon Custom Cabinetry and its owner George Vlamakis. The complaining party posted this scathing report about the job he did on the cabinets he installed in a NYC condo. Whenever a post includes mentions or recommendations, we now request confirmation from the submitting party that due diligence was performed and if that is not possible, we remove the mentions.

APEX, N.C. – Laura A. Schoppe, president of Fuentek, LLC, a local consulting firm that provides intellectual property (IP) and technology transfer services, has announced that the firm has received two awards for its work for NASA from the Carolina Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). Fuentek received an Excellence Award for the NASA Glenn Research Center 2011 Technology Showcase website and a Merit Award for the “NASA’s Economic Impacts: A 50 State Series” brochures.

Fuentek designed the 2011 Technology Showcase website for NASA’s Glenn Research Center to encourage attendance by a wide range of companies. The site was sophisticated yet simple, scientifically robust yet easy to navigate, informative yet not overwhelming. The Fuentek project team consisted of project lead Dr. Nannette Stangle-Castor, Web designer and writer Lee Ann Obringer, and Web developer Dawn Smith.

NASA also tasked Fuentek with educating people about the economic impact across the U.S. of NASA’s technology transfer program. Fuentek designed the brochures, “NASA’s Economic Impacts: A 50 State Series” to provide concrete and impressive statistics showing how government research projects are helping to spark innovation in a wide array of industries, create new jobs and improve lives to a broad, non-technical audience. The brochures, which have been prominently displayed on NASA’s website and distributed to members of Congress, media and others, were created by Danielle McCulloch with Michelle Allen, Lisa Baker, Carol Collins, Lee Ann Obringer, Michelle Ormond, Dr. Amy Strong, and Melody Zanation.

“We are privileged to work with NASA and help them tell the nation why the innovations they develop are important and how they impact us economically,” Schoppe said. “We are proud to be recognized by STC Carolina for our efforts in promoting technology transfer and collaboration.

Red Ten NYC Recommend Direct Marketing to Effectively Reach Target Audience

By: Brenna Keogh, Red Ten NYC | March 06, 2013

“Consumers are overloaded with marketing messages which can make it difficult for companies to find the perfect marketing tool to reach their target audience.”

Red Ten NYC recommends direct marketing as the most effective channel.

NEW YORK, NY, March 06, 2013 / -- According to new research, a person will see 27 roadside posters and 14 bus ads on average per day. Every time commuters make a metro journey, they see around 74 adverts (marketingweek.co.uk). The Managing Director at Red Ten NYC explains: "There is an overload of information people encounter every day; but how much information will they actually notice or remember?" Marketing through mass media channels can reach millions of people every day; however it can be extremely difficult to measure positive results and responses. "The goal is to find the target audience for a certain product or service in a specific location at a specific period of time," suggests Red Ten NYC.

One of the benefits of direct marketing is that it enables a brand to directly identify, isolate and communicate with well-defined target markets (selectabase.co.uk). Red Ten NYC explains that direct marketing is far more cost effective than targeting the mass market and it allows a test period. "If we feel that we cannot reach the relevant target market in a specific location for example, we can simply relocate the campaign. Furthermore, due to the direct interaction with consumers, we may receive hints directly from people why the demand is low and can implement new strategies quickly without much effort in order to get back on track immediately. This flexibility is a huge advantage."

Red Ten NYC is an outsourced direct sales and marketing company based in New York City. "We help our clients raise brand awareness to a specific target audience. With the immediate results we receive directly from consumers, we can provide our clients with the relevant feedback"; adds Red Ten NYC's MD. Being able to monitor results so closely, Red Ten NYC's clients have the opportunity to plan and can make sure they target the right people. "Analysing data quickly allows us to have more specific conversations with customers which will increase sales," says a Red Ten NYC spokesperson. Furthermore, direct marketing helps monitor and achieve short-term goals in order to remain on track for long-term objectives.

A good example of what Red Ten was able to accomplish with local NYC medical waste disposal firm Advo Waste Medical's new promotion touting their new service, quick sharps container pickup. The promotion informs the public about the largely unknown service which impacts every doctor's office and clinic - any medical professional who gives patient injections needs to dispose of the syringes, or "sharps" as they call them. These items may not be discarded in the trash as they may contain biological waste and/or hazardous materials. The campaign was such a huge success that they decided to target southern Connecticut and communities in New Jersey for a similar campaign in the fall.

Business analysts foresee further growth opportunities for Red Ten NYC in 2013 as this year's trend for many American companies seems to lean towards the more traditional marketing practices. Direct marketing has moved ahead by leaps and bounds over the past five years and is driven by increased effectiveness in identifying and targeting a specific segment of the market.
