Cambridge Who's Who Names Dr. Marlaina Palmeri Professional of the Year in Education

Marlaina Palmeri, Ph.D., has been named a Professional of the Year for 2011-2012

    NEW YORK, NY, December 27, 2011 /Management PR News/ -- Dr. Marlaina Palmeri, Senior Vice President of GEMS Americas, has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Education. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

With 41 years of experience in the field of education, Dr. Palmeri served as the senior vice president of Edison Learning for 10 years and now serves as the senior vice president of charter schools and leadership development for GEMS Americas, where she has worked since October of 2009. GEMS Americas is a subsidiary of GEMS Education, the largest operator of premier private and public schools in the world. Her passion for working with urban students, teachers and school leaders has enabled her to effectively implement educational reform strategies and standards of excellence for charter and turnaround schools. There have been many highlights throughout her career, but one that remains particularly dear to her was having her school where she was principal recognized as one of America's top-100 high poverty, high achieving Distinguished Schools of Mastery. Several of the charter schools in DC, NY, PA, MD, IL and OH that Dr. Palmeri started and subsequently supervised have thrived for over 10 years. Many of these schools have been recognized by their respective state and national charter authorizers as beacons in the charter movement.

Dr. Palmeri earned a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Rochester. She is a member of ASCD and the National Association of School Principals. Additionally, she is affiliated with Phi Delta Kappa. Moreover, Dr. Palmeri has been honored by Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who from the National Honor Society and Who's Who of American Women. Dr. Palmeri was honored with a Distinguished Educator of New York State Award in 1996.
